We developed a narrative based on the key locations we were covering. We worked closely with the client, via their agency, to line up contributors to feature in the film.
Our Producer and Director of Photography travelled from London to Oman for the multi-day shoot, filming on a nimble handheld gimbal rig to keep them agile. We shot on a Panasonic GH5 with a Zihyun Crane and a selection of lenses, a GoPro Hero 6, and 16mm film to add texture to the finished film.
Prior to the shoot, the Producer undertook an extensive risk assessment and a first aid training course to prepare for filming in a hot, remote, challenging environment. The team also worked with the Omani government to secure the relevant permits for filming in the country.
The shoot involved hiking long distances through desert and mountainous regions, climbing and swimming in water-filled canyons. The crew underwent a first aid training course before travelling to Oman, and worked with local guides and safety experts to gain access to remote locations.
The camera kit was secured using ropes to allow the Camera Operator to climb and film safely, and then packed into a waterproof bag when swimming.
The documentary was cut in Nemorin’s London studio on Adobe CC.
The team also created several cutdowns for use on social media.
Travel documentaries are an incredible way of showcasing the culture and atmosphere of a place. For this project we used personal character stories to elevate the narrative.
